Bedford Press x Maridalen Trykk

The Architectural Association set up their own print shop last year called Bedford Press, a small-scale printing press and publisher within their school, and together with the AA Print Studio will publish all printed materials. The print shop is runned by Zak Kyes, Wayne Daly, Claire McManus and Phill Clatworthy.

Our school should have an entity like this, say a sort of Maridalen Trykk, playing a pro-active role in coordinating, designing and publishing the scools academic output, broadcasting it to anyone out there.

They absolutely should, but how do you initiate such a project? And who would you hire to run it? Those four people behind Bedford Press are geniuses in their field(graphic design)

All the functioning editors at AHO could be the initiating group with authority coordinating all published material. Heck, you could pick and choose from AHO's student body for the design-part. Lots of interesting content being produced by PhD candidates, students and faculty at AHO.

When hiring, maybe an art director not from our school. Node Berlin, maybe. Fresh eyes to kick start the whole sha-bang, not a bad idea, I think.

Could be a model for AHO to pursue. Know of any interesting candidates?

I think that it would have been very interesting if AHO were to put up the money for such a project. Preferably lead by someone with a fair share amount of experience from outside of norway. It could be someone from Node-Oslo/Berlin, but theres also many others to "choose" from.

I went AHO and saw the AHO works exhibition before christmas and i stumbled across the Studio Re-Store catalogue. I was pleasantly surprised and seeing this made me think that AHO could really benefit from having an active inhouse design group.

Was this designed by a student at AHO? Or outsourced?

No fresh eyes from Berlin at this moment, go to St Petersburg to get updated and hire the right fade.
